Calvin Sopocy

Intro

Hey! I'm Calvin a Cybersecurity Analyst. I am just graduating from Colorado State University and currently live in Chicago. I absolutely love to work with computers and systems and spend a good amount of my free time just tinkering with tech. I have my own NAS that I keep regularly updated and configured and use an openWRT router with a Raspberry Pi. I have spent a lot of my degree working on a ton of interesting coding projects and have a ton of experience in a multiple different languages including Python, C++, Java, Javascript and more. Though I am more than just a capable coder my passion lies in networking and security. I have a few certifications in the field to show for it including CompTIA Security+.

I also have completed my Google Cybersecurity!

I hope to continue my learning in the field and get my CCNA and Cysa+ next.

Work

One of my most significant personal projects involved collaborating with a close friend from high school. I initially contributed my expertise in front-end development to help build his website, but as the project progressed, I took on additional responsibilities, including enhancing the application’s functionality and refining the graphical interface. I also had the opportunity to experiment with graphic design by creating the logo. We spent months working on the application and I gained extremely valuable experience with a small team and constant development and integration..

I am currently collaborating with a PHD student on a cybersecurity research project at Colorado State. We are studying vulnerabilities in gaming platforms and software to better understand potential security risks. Our goal is to present our findings responsibly to contribute to safer software practices, with plans to share our work by May.

About

I grew up in the Chicago area and spent my young adult years in Colorado. I originally began my academic career studying Biology, driven by a deep passion for environmentalism and sustainability. After rediscovering a strong interest in technology through personal projects, I shifted my focus to Computer Science, concentrating in Cybersecurity. What started as curiosity quickly became a clear professional path. The transition has been both challenging and rewarding, and my knowledge and enthusiasm for the field continue to grow each day. I am currently finishing my degree with one class remaining and am eager to begin the next chapter of my career.

Outside of technology, I am passionate about the outdoors. I enjoy running and will be completing my first marathon this May in Denver — the day after graduation. I am an avid snowboarder and try to spend as many days on the mountain as possible, though it has been more challenging since moving back to Chicago. I also value balance and mindfulness through yoga and meditation, which help me stay focused and resilient. I have two beautiful pets, a dog and a cat that keep me active and grounded.
